Former “World’s Strongest Man” Eddie Hall is known for taking on new challenge. Eddie is known for his all-time deadlift world record of 1,102lbs/500kg, as well as the world’s strongest man of 2017. Well, as of yesterday he has one more world record under his belt.
The Englishman originally made an appearance at the CrossFit European Championships to meet and greet his fans. However, instead of just hanging around his booth and getting pictures with the fans, the 32-year-old former strongman decided to take an attempt at the Grace Workout, which consists of completing 30 clean and jerks with 135lbs as quickly as possible.
However he later decided to take an attempt at the famous Isabel Workout instead. The difference is that the Isabel Workout allows for any type of snatch, or in other words, Hall would have to move the weight from the ground to overhead 30 times as quickly as possible. The weight was still 135 lbs and the previous record was held by four-time CrossFit Games champion Rich Froning at 1 minute and 20 seconds.
Eddie stepped up to the bar and cracked 30 fast reps in just 49 seconds ( after a review that time was changed to 50.9 seconds), and broke the world record for this WOD.
He said that he was hoping to complete the challenge in around 55 seconds, but he was surprised that he broke the world record and completed it in 50 seconds instead. Check the full video below:
After catching his breath, Hall even joked that the record won’t count if he dies. But he was eventually able to talk about the performance and let’s just say that he’s not planning to become a CrossFit athlete anytime soon.
Big respect to the CrossFitters, it’s a lot harder than people make out,” Eddie said. “They get slagged off left right and center on social media, but I can tell you now looking at these guys competing today, I genuinely believe it’s got to be one of the hardest sports on the planet to train for and compete in. So that’s me out to CrossFit.”
