In today’s world, we are all going crazy due to one issue related to our health and that is obesity. The Internet is overflowing with trendy diets and each one seems better than others. There are two diets that are constantly showing drastic results throughout the world, these are Paleo and Keto Diet. It is difficult to conclude which one is better for weight loss. Here, in today’s post about Paleo or Keto weight loss which is better, we are going to analyze both these popular diets for the benefit of our readers.
Paleo Keto Weight Loss; which is a better diet!
Apparently Keto diet and Paleo diet are the most popular and almost similar kinds of diets for weight loss. Both diets are based on low-carbohydrate consumption and most of the time very restrictive too. Like any healthy weight loss plan, both these diets restrict common favorites like sweets, cookies, pizza, and cereals. Let us see what are the things that make them different from each other.
Let us talk about Paleolithic Diet
The Paleo Diet is a diet that is a high protein, low carbs, and fiber-rich. This diet is called the cave man’s diet so lays a strong emphasis on meat, fruits, and vegetables. Various researchers have proved that during the Paleolithic age, human beings used to eat all the above-mentioned foods. In the Paleo diet, whole grains and legumes, are also not allowed.
Take a look at Ketogenic Diet
Keto Diet is very low in carbs as compared to a Paleo diet. Keto Diet aims to put the body into a state of ketosis. That means the state when our body starts using fat instead of carbohydrates as its main source of energy. It so happens that when our body enters ketosis, fat reaches the liver and makes an acid known as ketones. These Ketones when enter the bloodstream, they are converted into energy.
Most important for getting into Ketosis is that approximately 60-80 % of daily calorie intake must be from good fats.
Restrictions on the Paleo diet
Some of the restrictive foods include…
- Cereal grains (wheat, barley, rice, corn, etc),
- Refined vegetable and seed oils (sunflower oil, vegetable oil, and all other),
- All legumes including peanuts,
- Dairy products (milk, basically).
- Anything with flour- bread, pasta, cookies, or any processed food.
- Any form of beverages like soda, alcohol, even fruit juices.
- Concentrated sugars in any form, dietary sweeteners, and definitely no refined sugars.
What can be had in Paleo Diet?
Grass-fed meat, seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, nuts and seeds, and oils like coconut, avocado, honey, maple syrup in a limited quantity, and olive oil.
What can be had in Keto Diet?
On the Keto diet, not more than 20-30 gm of carbs can be had and that makes Keto a tougher diet to follow. Meat, cheese, low carb vegetables, eggs, fish, nuts, oils, dairy (butter, cream cheese, heavy cream), and just a few low carb fruits.
Paleo Keto Weight Loss; which is better?
If we compare Paleo and Keto diet, I think both are great diets for weight loss. On Paleo, diet fruits can be had while Keto is strict about it. On the Paleo diet, there is a strict restriction on refined oils while Keto is accommodating for that.
It won’t be wrong to say that the focus of the keto diet is on the manipulation of the three macro-nutrients, carbs, fat, and protein while the Paleo diet is more about the food choices. Paleo demands to eliminate dairy, grains, and processed foods but balancing the macro-nutrients the way we want.
As far as weight loss on both diets is concerned, it depends on how long term can you adopt these diets. For Indians, both way of eating is a tough thing to do. On both diets, it is all about changing your lifestyle and getting results of your choice.
