Transformation of the Day: Maria lost 118 pounds. She changed her lifestyle and had duodenal switch surgery because she wants to be here for her son for as long as she can. Now, she can comfortably do things with her family, like going to amusement parks and bike riding.
My name is Maria, and I started my weight loss journey in August 2019 with a high protein, low carb diet. I have lost over 100 pounds. Now, I can enjoy activities with my children and husband, such as amusement parks and bike riding. I feel like I have a new lease on life, with much more energy and confidence. I still have a long way to go, but I’m so grateful I started this journey to a better, happier me.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my son and wanting to be around as long as I can for him. Seeing my weight loss progress is what inspired me to keep going when I wanted to give up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I focused on eating a high protein/low carb diet. I cut back on pasta, pizza, and bread. I also replaced my unhealthy snacks with deli meat and cheese.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I try to walk about three miles, three times per week. I also do about 6-10 miles on the bike trail. However, I have slacked quite a bit during the cold weather.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, I had duodenal switch surgery on December 20, 2019.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I’ve gone from 330 pounds to 212 pounds, losing 100+ pounds.
What is your height?
5’7″
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
This is a journey, not a race. My journey is just that, mine.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Be kind to yourself. You didn’t become overweight overnight, so it will take time to see a big difference, but stay consistent.
