Uriia lost 161 pounds | Black Weight Loss Success

Transformation of the Day: Uriia lost 161 pounds. This mother of five started her journey seven years ago with Gastric Bypass surgery. She committed to changing her lifestyle to overcome type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I’m a mother of five, and I’m 43 years old. I decided to begin my weight loss journey because I was tired of taking dozens of medications. Being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure was weighing on me mentally, physically, and emotionally.

I wanted to be a better me, not for the opposite sex or to be better than the next woman but just to improve myself.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I began my journey on August 20, 2013. My transformation took seven years. This was due to setbacks, failing to be consistent, medical issues, and life in general.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I had a successful Gastric Bypass procedure done on August 20, 2013. That’s where it all began!

How did you change your eating habits?
I began to research and discovered JJ Smith’s 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse. During this process, I eliminated eating red meat, pasta, bread, sweets, etc. I also paid close attention to my sugar intake and drank up to a gallon of water per day. I ate more veggies and stuck to foods that promote weight loss.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I didn’t have a workout routine, and I also didn’t have a personal trainer. I purchased a membership at LA Fitness, where I did mostly cardio. I went to the gym three times a week.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 358 pounds. My current weight is 197 pounds.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to be determined and let nothing stand in your way. I had to change my mindset and understand that this is not a diet but a complete lifestyle change. I am a woman of God. It took prayer and letting the Holy Spirit lead me, even when I was deciding what to eat. I always remembered Philippians 4:13: “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”
