On this website we talk about the importance of good oral health and our role in helping others achieve it. By organizing a fundraiser and raising money for us, you will help reduce inequalities in oral health and give people in need more opportunities to develop and maintain healthy smiles.

We also want you to have fun and raise funds for the Oral Health Foundation.

Here’s what you need to know about setting up and running a great fundraising event.

Make up your mind

We have a number of different things that you can raise money for. We are currently collecting money for Oral Cancer Awareness, Children’s oral health and for the Access to supplies for the homeless.

Of course, you do not have to select these. You can just choose to Raise money for the Oral Health Foundation, where your donation helps us achieve a variety of our charitable goals.

Choose your audience

Think about the type of people that will be involved in your fundraising activity. Are you addressing family and friends, work colleagues or children? Certain events are better suited to different groups.

If your fundraiser is a personal challenge (like a run or bike ride), how can your supporters track your progress?

Choose what you want to do

We have plenty of fundraising ideas for you to choose from, but you don’t have to stick to them. Be creative and let the event fit your personality and reflect your personal goals.

Whether it’s a traditional event like taking part in a race or something a little more out of the ordinary like taking part in a head shave, make sure you are having fun and spreading positive messages about oral health.

Set your goal

Think about how much money you want to raise. You may find that your backers are more committed to your endeavors when they see that you are working toward a specific goal.

While achieving and exceeding your goal is important, be ambitious and trust the generosity of those who support you.

Think about your budget

Many activities come at no cost, but sometimes a small investment can work wonders to increase your donation.

Some things to keep in mind are the cost of raffle prizes, venue rental, race entry fees, and food and drink.

Find a venue and decide on a date

Do you have a place to hold your event? Offices, study group centers, and schools are natural choices. Your venue needs to be big enough for your activity and all of the supporters you invite to come and watch.

Decide on an appointment and start working towards it as soon as possible in your planning and promotion. It has to be suitable for your audience.

Contact the relevant authorities

Is there any paperwork you need to do or a permit before you start your event? For example, if you drive onto the main road, you will need to get permission from the municipality.

If you are taking photos of the event, ensure that all photos of children are approved by parents beforehand.

Create a donation page

Once you have all the details for your event, you can Create your own fundraising page right here.

Building your page is really easy and only takes a few minutes. When you’ve done this, share your page with friends, family, and colleagues to get involved and support you in your cause. From here you can also monitor your progress, how much money you are raising, while keeping donors updated on your progress.

Buy what you need

You should make a list of all the necessary precautions. For example. A charity run requires the right clothing (get in touch – we can help you here), an exercise plan, a water bottle, first aid supplies, and a different diet.

Conversely, if you’re hosting a quiz night, you may need to rent tables, clipboards, paper and pens, and buy food and drinks. What you need is very specific to your event.

Sponsorship form

In addition to directing people to your online donation page, you can also raise funds offline.

You can collect cash directly from your supporters by downloading a sponsorship form. You can send this to us after your event by post, check, bank transfer or online donation. We will then add the amount to your donation page!

Write about your efforts

Local newsletters, daily newspapers, radio stations and the television in your area are always keen to cover events for a good cause, so let them know the details of your event in a timely manner. Your own advertising can be a great way to increase your donation amount.

If you need a little help, our Press team can help you put your events into words and even contact the local press on your behalf.

distribute flyers

An inexpensive and effective way to promote your event is to hand out flyers a few weeks in advance.

Make your event flyer as interesting as possible and include all important information such as the date, location and type of the planned event. You can even send the flyer as a JPEG or PDF file to some of your contacts who may be able to print it out for free.

Social media

Keep your supporters up to date via social media. Post regularly to remind them of your event, how to support and donate.

Use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to let your followers know about your progress. Keep your posts fun and engaging – that way they are more likely to get shared and your event could even go viral!

Smile for the camera

Think of photo opportunities. Local newspapers love to use funny and entertaining photos as the basis for reporting on local events. Keep your supporters up to date by taking your own photos or you can even book a photographer for larger events.

A good, high quality image is a great way to generate media exposure and is a great reminder of your successful event.

Feel free to contact us

Once you’ve finished your event and sent us the money you raised offline, we’d love to hear from you and find out how your fundraiser went.

It is very important to us to thank the people who fundraise on our behalf and to acknowledge all of their hard work. We would be very happy to recognize your contributions.
